Hoffman Honored With “Manufacturer Of The Year” Award
Manufacturing Alliance Recognition Based on Company’s Expertise and Support of Best Practices
ANOKA, MN — April 14, 2005—Hoffman, a Pentair Company, has been named the Manufacturers Alliance Large Manufacturer of the Year. The awards program, in its ninth year, recognizes Minnesota companies that share best practices and information to support and strengthen other manufacturers.
The Manufacturers Alliance identified two of Hoffman’s strengths as the application of the Pentair operating initiatives including a significant commitment and execution of lean manufacturing and the company’s openness to share its experience and expertise with business associations and educational institutions. | |
“We’re excited about this recognition from the Manufacturers Alliance,” said Del Nickel Hoffman’s President. “Each of our employees is engaged in our lean journey and associated continuous improvement processes. That commitment is commendable and plays a huge role in Hoffman’s success.”
As a leading manufacturer of enclosures to protect electronic and electrical equipment in industrial, commercial and data applications, Hoffman applies lean manufacturing principles in its manufacturing and offices. Last year, the company conducted more than three hundred kaizen events-- including 50 based on office operations. These events focus employees’ efforts of eliminating waste, whether in process, time or resources.
“Conducting tours with peer companies provides Hoffman with an opportunity to share what we’ve learned,” said Chris Peterson, Hoffman’s director of Minnesota operations. “And, we gain a great deal of knowledge from our visitors. While the award is wonderful recognition, the exchange of knowledge facilitated through the Manufacturers Alliance is a real benefit to all manufacturers.”
The Alliance noted in a recent newsletter article that Hoffman demonstrated its capability as both a learning and teaching organization through support of tours, educational programs and conference presentations. The company hosted more than 500 people at the facility in 2004 for benchmarking events and informal peer mentoring opportunities.
Accompanying the award, is an official proclamation from Governor Tim Pawlenty recognizing Hoffman for contributions to Minnesota’s manufacturing environment and economy.
